The homeowners and organisers behind these displays spend considerable time, money, and effort to bring joy to their street. Treating displays — and the people behind them — with respect ensures they keep doing it year after year. Please read through these simple guidelines before you visit.

🤫

Keep noise to a minimum

Residential streets are quiet places, especially in the evenings. Keep voices low, avoid playing music from your car or phone, and remind excited children to be considerate of people who may be sleeping — particularly babies and young children in neighbouring homes.

🚗

Park considerately

Never block driveways — this prevents residents from getting in or out of their homes. If the street is full, park further away and walk. Avoid double-parking or mounting pavements, and be mindful of dropped kerbs and residents' parking bays.

🚪

Stay off private property

Enjoy displays from the pavement or public path — don't step onto front gardens, driveways, or any area beyond the public boundary. Please don't knock on doors unless the owner has invited visitors to do so (some displays with charity collections welcome visitors — look for a sign).

🕐

Respect viewing hours

Many displays are only switched on during set hours — usually from dusk until around 10pm. Please don't visit outside these hours. Even if the lights are still on, lingering outside a home late at night is understandably unwelcome for the people who live there.

🗑️

Take your litter home

Don't leave food wrappers, cups, or packaging on the street. Residents shouldn't have to clear up after visitors. If there's no bin nearby, take it with you — the street is someone's front garden and they take pride in it.

📸

Be thoughtful with photos & videos

You're welcome to photograph the display — that's part of the fun! However, be careful not to capture people inside the home through windows. If other visitors are in your shot, be respectful. And if you share photos online, be cautious about tagging the precise address, as this can attract larger crowds than the homeowner intended.

❤️

Support charity collections

Many displays are put on to raise money for a good cause. If the listing mentions a charity collection, please consider making a small donation. Even a pound or two from many visitors adds up to something significant — and shows the homeowner that their effort is appreciated.

🐾

Keep children and pets safe

Keep young children close and don't let them run ahead into the street. If you bring a dog, keep it on a lead and clear up after it. Be mindful that the street isn't a park — other residents need to move freely through it.

A note of thanks

To every homeowner who creates a display: thank you. You brighten up streets, create memories for families, and bring communities together. TwinkleTrail exists to celebrate your generosity.
